Police sources said Shraddha Walkar and Aaftab Poonawala wanted a “break:” from the fights and decided to backpack across Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, leaving their homes in Mumbai in April.

After the trip, the couple decided to shift to Delhi and got a one-room flat on rent in the Chhatarpur Pahadi area of Mehrauli on May 15. Three days later, they again got into a fight, which ended fatally for Shraddha Walkar. Investigators say that as Aaftab Poonawala started disposing of the body parts, he also got on with his life, taking up a job at another call centre in Gurgaon. “If Aaftab Poonawala has done everything he has claimed during the interrogation, he must be hanged,” said Vikas Walkar, father of Shraddha Walkar. In Pic: Police personnel along with accused Aftab Ameen Poonawala at Mehrauli Police Station, in New Delhi, Monday, Nov. 14, 2022. (PTI)

Senior officers in Delhi Police told The Indian Express said multiple teams have been deployed to recover the evidence so the investigation can progress since, at the moment, a large part of the case rests on Aaftab’s alleged confession. (Source: ANI)

Probe officers acknowledged they are facing challenges as the woman was killed six months ago, and finding body parts in a dense jungle, not far from the couple’s rented residence in South Delhi’s Chhattapur Pahadi area, is not easy. (Express Photo)

Poonawala was sent a termination notice over email from his workplace around the same time the Delhi Police picked him up from his rented apartment in Chattarpur Pahadi. He had started working at a call centre shortly (7-15 days) after the murder a source informed. In Pic: A group of youth holds a candle light tribute for Shraddha Walker in Lucknow. (Express Photo)

Police are also yet to find the murder weapon – a small saw around 1 foot long – and the bloodstained clothes Aaftab allegedly wore at the time. In Pic: Aaftab Poonawala being brought to the Mehrauli forest area, in New Delhi. (PTI)

The Delhi Police also plan to contact and question the couple’s friends, including those who helped them get the rented accommodation. In Pic: People in Ghatkopar, Mumbai raise slogans during a protest over the killing of Shraddha Walkar. (Express Photo)
