As the world currently observes an evident shift towards the EV/Hybrid domain, industries have an inevitable choice to transform their operations into the green energy sector. With such strong urge to reduce dependency on petroleum-based automobiles, further re-enforced by the government policies, industries are constantly working on to upskill their employees. However, the primary issue with EV oriented training is the interdisciplinary behaviors of EV domain. While electric vehicle is an encapsulated version of electrical and mechanical sectors, it involves sufficient level of analytics, requires proper practical exposure, demands software-based training, and expects enough hands-on experience. Narrowing down the approach to the Indian EV transformation, this transformation is explicitly facing the issue of ‘sufficient training opportunities. While several institutes provide training courses in these domains, there was no significant training solution which is specifically designed for working professional. Moreover, while good level of attention is imparted to the online training, no progress is observable in the sector of ‘EV practical and LIVE training’, which is one of the primary objectives for working professionals. To target these loopholes, DIYguru, is association with ASDC and AICTE, Govt. of India successfully launched ‘EV Nanodegree program’, with the possibility to provide all three access to the enrolled candidates: Offline, Online and Blended. While the offline program includes regular weekly technical classes at the DIYguru Center of excellence at Pune and Delhi locations, it also covers the other sectors of EV, namely: Business opportunities in EV, Government policies and etc.
They started back in 2016, with a small student base of 10, and 3 member team but because of constant support and feedback on improvising the quality and standard of their courses from 120+ corporates and 50,000 + students worldwide, and are now at this stage as the industry leader in E-Mobility upskilling. However, time availability is a crucial aspect for the working professionals, and so, regular classroom recordings are automatically provided to the participants as the LIVE classes are conducted. Adding further to it, LIVE access to the classroom sessions are also given to the participants, such that candidates living outside Delhi/Pune can be a part of LIVE training classes. It is equally important to understand that these solutions are additional features, as DIYguru already provides access to 18+ online/LIVE courses, as a part of nanodegree program. It is also expected that professionals might not get sufficient time to attend all classes on LIVE basis, and could thus go for recorded sessions along with the online lecture series. However, to ensure zero loss in education, DIYguru conducts weekly LIVE doubt sessions on weekends such that the participants can clear their queries directly with the instructor on LIVE basis. With the initiatives, DIYguru makes sure that the participants can follow through the schedule, without affecting their ongoing work commitments. Coming to the second objective, i.e.: providing necessary practical exposure, DIYguru has collaboration with several universities and industries around the country, which are empaneled with the DIYguru center of excellence, and thus, DIYguru ensures that each enrolled participant shall receive the opportunity to be a part of 80 hr+ practical training, over a period of 2 months, as a part of this program.”
The practical training modules are designed in a way, that all technical trainings with 18+ courses, LIVE classes, classroom sessions are delivered on a practical basis, ensuring a perfect blend of practical exposure among our students. To further ensure that everyone can attend these workshops, the practical sessions are conducted on weekends only. Adding another layer of accessibility, LIVE access to practical trainings are provided to those who are unable to attend them in person. Going even a step further, if a candidate is unable to attend these trainings in person, he/she can ask the DIYguru to conduct dedicated intensive 10-day practical training program such that candidates can visit the DIYguru EV labs, and can attend the complete 2-month practical workshops, over a dedicated intensive timeline of 10 days! With these measures, DIYguru ensures to create an ecosystem, well modelled for all levels of professionals and students, such that complete level of EV trainings, in all phases of fundamentals, intermediate, advanced, blended with practical classroom training and workshops, could be delivered to each of our students and working professional! In the next decades, the automotive industry will undergo a substantial transformation: the vehicles it build, the companies that build them and the consumers who buy them will be significantly different.
The future workforce will need to work on a series of non-routine tasks that would require social intelligence, complex critical thinking and creative problem solvingto remain relevant in the auto industry. The shift from the internal combustion engine (ICE) to electric vehicles is being viewed as a market distruptor. This shift is expected to have a major impact on the nature of jobs through automotive value chain. Some job losses are expected since manufacturing process for ICE based cars differs significantly from that of electric vehicles that require fewer parts. This will have a major effect on the business of auto component manufacturers as they will have to make a substantial shift from the current business of supplying engine parts, gear box, exhaust pipe etc. to battery electric motors etc. this will lead to the emergence of new players in the value chain. Our analysis suggest that the current employees will have to be skilled to match the automotive sector evolving requirements. Electric vehicles will have a profound impact on the mix of Automotive workforce at OEMs and auto component manufacturers and the presence of upskilling platform like this will drive the employee reskilling to meet the growing demand of skilled workforce for E-Mobility.
