Top 5 Upcoming Electric Cars In India – DriveSpark

The demand for electric cars in the Indian automobile market is steadily increasing and automakers are now looking forward to launching their own electric vehicles in the Indian automobile market.
In addition to that, the range anxiety among Indian consumers is on the decline as automakers are introducing new EVs with better range and the charging infrastructure has also improved by a considerable margin.
Kia is now gearing up for the launch of the Kia EV6 electric crossover in India and the South Korean automaker has already filed trademarks for the ‘EV6’ moniker in the country. In addition to that, Kia EV6 will be the South Korean automaker’s first EV in India.
As per the trademark filed by Kia Motors in India, the company has filed for the trademarks EV6, EV6 Air, EV6 Water, EV6 Earth and EV6 Light. This is surprising for many enthusiasts in the country as the upcoming Kia E6 crossover electric vehicle in international markets offers just 3 trim levels.
Initially, Kia will be fully importing the Kia EV6 in the top-end GT-Line. This model features an AWD powertrain and produces 320bhp of peak power. Apart from that, the company claims a range of more than 440kms on a single charge.
Recently, Hyundai Motor India officially announced the company’s intentions to launch the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle in India before the end of 2022. However, unlike Kia EV6, the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle will be the brand’s second EV for the Indian market.
Moreover, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle is also the 2022 World Car Of The Year winner and comes with a choice of two different battery packs – a 58kWh battery pack and a larger 72.6kWh battery pack.
Apart from that, Hyundai is likely to offer both 2WD and AWD variants of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle in India. The claimed range for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is 481kms and the most powerful variant pushes 302bhp of peak power.
Though Tata Motors currently dominates the EV passenger vehicle segment in India with models such as the Tata Nexon EV and the Tata Tigor EV, Tata Motors is planning to further strengthen its dominance with the launch of the Tata Altroz EV.
We expect the upcoming Tata Altroz EV to share the powertrain with Tata Nexon EV. Moreover, thanks to lower body weight and better aerodynamics, expect Tata Altroz EV to deliver better performance and range than the Tata Nexon EV.
Expect Tata Motors to launch the Tata Tiago EV in the Indian market before the festive season. Moreover, when launched, the model is expected to be the most affordable electric car in India.
Apart from that, the Tata Tiago EV is also expected to use the same powertrain as the Tata Tigor EV. Thanks to the lower kerb weight, expect the Tiago EV to come with a slightly better range and marginally better performance.
Tata Nexon EV is currently one of the best selling electric vehicles in the country and Tata Motors is looking forward to launching the updated Tata Nexon EV with a larger 40kWh battery pack to further boost its sales.
Thanks to this larger battery pack, the upcoming Tata Nexon EV long-range is expected to cover more than 400kms on a single charge.
The EV sales in India is growing day by day and thanks to rising fuel prices in the country, more people are now looking forward to buying an electric vehicle.
However, a significant jump in EV sales can only be witnessed once the EV charging infrastructure is developed in the country.
