A ‘severe heatwave’ scorched Delhi on Friday, with the Safdarjung Observatory, its base station, recording a maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius, seven notches above normal and the highest this year so far, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The meteorological office has issued an orange alert, warning of a severe heatwave in the national capital on Saturday too. (PTI)

Ajmer man stalks ex ‘friend’ all the way to Delhi, arrested
A 21-year-old Ajmer man travelled all the way to Delhi taking leave from his office to allegedly stalk his former friend, police said on Friday. The accused, a government employee and presently posted in Ajmer, was arrested on Thursday, they said. According to police, a 20-year-old Delhi University student had lodged a complaint alleging that an unknown man has been stalking and harassing her on social media platforms using anonymous identities. Over 3,000 trees to be removed for Delhi Metro’s Phase 4
More than 3,000 trees will be transplanted or felled for the Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 line from Janakpuri West to R.K. Ashram, which will cover a distance of 29.26 km and have 22 stations.The Forest Department has granted permission to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to fell or transplant 2,940 trees in the North Forest Division, and 450 trees in the South Forest Division. Delhi: Air panel wants more machines to beat dust
The central government’s panel on air quality has advised road-owning agencies in Delhi to procure more mechanical road sweeping machines (MRSMs) and water sprinklers to control the dust. Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) stated that one machine can effectively sweep only 40 km of roads in a day, which is not enough for Delhi.
Delhi govt likely to roll out EMI facility on electric 2-wheelers for employees
In view of encouraging large-scale adoption of electric vehicles in Delhi to reduce air pollution, the city government plans to provide e-two-wheelers to its employees on easy monthly installments, officials have said.The government had on Thursday announced a major plan to push e-cycles — first 10,000 electric cycle buyers will get a purchase incentive of 25 percent (up to Rs 10,000), while the first 1,000 will get an extra incentive of Rs 2,000. The minimum temperature in Delhi this morning was recorded at 19.7 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.The weather office said days will get warmer over the week. SDMC claimed that talkswere on with other agenciesfor four more sites and aftertheir nod, these would be developed into surface parking lots. “We are trying to reducecongestion on roads due to illegal parkingby providingsuitable parking sites. Wehave addedthree parkinglots duringthe last financial year andone of themhas been made operational. Tenders forthe remaining two will be called soon,” said a seniorSDMC official. In addition to this, fiveparking lots have been madeoperational for commercialvehicles near Lotus Temple,opposite Tihar Jail, UmeedAman Ghar Mehrauli, nearDwarka Sector 6 and Sector14 Metro Station.
