13 Upcoming Electric Cars – Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra – India Car News

The electric car market is gradually blooming in India, thanks to the government’s new EV policies and new product lineup. In the next couple of years, we will witness several new electric car launches across different segments. Here’re key details of the upcoming electric cars from India’s top four car manufacturers – Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. All these models are slated to arrive in the next 3-4 years.

The home-grown automaker aims to expand its electric vehicle product lineup in the coming years. While the long-range Tata Nexon EV with updated Ziptron technology will arrive in coming months, the Altroz EV is reported to hit roads towards the end of this year. The company is also working on the electric version of the Punch mini SUV along with the all-new electric Coupe SUV and Sierra EV. However, their launch timeline is yet to be revealed.

Mahindra’s smallest electric car – eKUV100 – will see a release by the end of 2022. It will be followed by the electric version of the Mahindra XUV300 that made its debut in the concept avatar at the 2020 Auto Expo. The automaker will unveil three new electric SUV concepts in July 2022, which are likely to include e-XUV300, e-XUV700 and an electric Coupe SUV. More details are likely to be revealed in coming months.
Hyundai Kona Facelift

The South Korean automaker will roll out the Hyundai Kona facelift sometime this year. While the Ioniq 5 is reported to arrive in 2023, Hyundai’s Made-in-India electric car might come sometime in 2025. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover has been designed on the brand’s dedicated BEV platform called – Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It could be offered with two battery pack options.
Maruti Electric SUV
If reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car will be a mid-size SUV that will hit Indian roads sometime in 2025. The company’s Gujrat based facility will serve as production hub for the new Maruti electric SUV. Codenamed Maruti YY8, the model will be based on a skateboard 27PL platform and measure bigger than the Hyundai Creta. It’s reported to deliver a range of up to 500km on a single charge.
